Campaign

I was elected to serve District 4 on the Board of Commissioners in November 2004. In December 2007 the Board elected me to serve as Chairman. I have strived to fairly represent and improve the quality of life for the citizens of District 4 and all of Guilford County. I am running for reelection because I want to continue to be a part of helping Guilford County provide a strong economic environment for all citizens, quality education for students of all ages, safe neighborhoods and workplaces, affordable housing, effective emergency services and law enforcement, fair and realistic social services and protection and enhancement of our environment and natural resources.

A commissioner should lead and not govern. I have worked to find common ground with the other commissioners and with other elected officials of Guilford County. I want to continue to expand public trust in our Board of Commissioners, which I feel I have helped create.

The most important challenge I see is to provide responsive and responsible stewardship and leadership for our county. Government services are not free and the challenge is wisely using tax revenues for the benefit of our citizens. I support all efforts to increase efficiencies of Guilford County government and minimize tax burdens on our citizens. I believe the free market is the best engine for growth and economic development. The market should be regulated fairly to promote balanced and sustainable growth with only limited necessary government interference. I want to work with all government agencies, private concerns and our geographic neighbors to expand and enhance our local and regional economies. We need a skilled and educated workforce that is fairly paid and provided with safe and rewarding workplace opportunities. Guilford County is a special place with smart and energetic citizens who are the building blocks for economic development.
